The title “Auto das Pastorinhas” bear no translation. “Auto” is a Portuguese and Spanish dramatic genre of short plays on sacred or biblical subjects. Auto das Pastorinhas, originated in the Portuguese Nativity autos, is a theatrical play with dances and songs performed in front of a Nativity manger scene to celebrate Christmas. It has “jornadas” (that could be called “acts of the play) that, besides dances and songs, include recitations and laudations. Pastorinhas, Congado and Bumba-meu-Boi are examples of Brazilian autos. The soundtrack was researched in Belo Horizonte area by José Adolfo Moura and recreated by Lindembergue Cardoso, who composed also the soundtracks of “Cobra Norato” and “As Relações Naturais”.
